You are correct about the vintage of your Marlin Model 39-A. It is a 1968 production gun. There is a thread somewhere on here that gives about all the serial number information if you want to do a "SEARCH" for it. The Marlin 39AS ( the ones with the crossbolt safety) came out in the late 1980's. If that's the one you have your serial # dates to 1992. The formula is 100-the first 2 digits of the serial # (100-08 =92) They are really nice rifles!

Your gun certainly must have a Ballard style rifled barrel if it does not have 16 lands and grooves that is found in the Micro-Groove barrel.
